Porcelain Postcards

In order to whet your appetite, I am posting just four introductory pictures from Colorado. There are more to come, but this should pique your interest.

To begin with, we have the Alpha Chi Omega House. This sorority house is temporarily the boarding house for students of the philosophy seminar. It's a cute little building at the corner of 12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Campus is just a couple of blocks away.

Lest there be any confusion that this is, indeed, a sorority house, notice the gentle nuances of the main restroom located on the main floor. A nice bowl of potpourri on the back of the toilet, and what is that pretty decoration next to the sink?

Ah, but of course -- feminine hygiene products. Well, at least they get an A+ for presentation!

And finally, here is the restroom on campus at the Hellems building, where the seminar takes place. I absolutely hate when restrooms are designed like this. Bowl-like urinals that offer absolutely zero privacy. And no dividers between them. Luckily, the building is essentially vacant in the summer.

And there you have it, a quick introduction to my time at Colorado. More to come. Feel free to make any of the above pictures into your desktop wallpaper. I won't mind.

  1. My first thought after a quick glance was - "why so many urinals in a sorority house"??? but your text below soon set me straight...

  2. no, no, silly. Those are backwashers. You sit in it, and pull the handle.

  3. I guess all you geniuses (or is it geni-i, like cacti?) have more on your mind and don't need the urinal dividers. I thought it was quite thoughtful to have the feminine products so nicely displayed. They probably learned that in a Relief Society lesson!
